O.A.R.’s island-vibe roots rock sound first developed in Rockville, Maryland, in 1996 in the basement of drummer Chris Culos' childhood home. While still in high school, the band released their first album, The Wanderer. Unlike most high school bands, which dissolve after graduation, O.A.R. decided it needed to expose its music to a larger audience and all of its members went on to The Ohio State University. By the time they had graduated from college, O.A.R. already had three albums - and hundreds of shows ’ under their belts.
After selling over 300,000 CDs on their own label (Everfine Records), O.A.R. joined forces with Lava Records for their major label debut, In Between Now and Then, followed two years later in 2005 by their most recent studio effort, Stories of a Stranger. The album produced radio favorites "Love and Memories" and "Heard the World" as well as "Lay Down," whose companion video clip was honored with the "Streaming Woodie" award for the Most Downloaded Video at the 2006 mtvU Woodie Awards. In addition to the success of the new album, the past year proved record breaking for the band with their biggest summer tour to date (performing in front of over 300,000 people), their first live release, Any Time Now, being certified gold, and their catalog surpassing the 1.2 million mark.
O.A.R. kicks off their summer with the release of Live From Madison Square Garden a double-disc CD set and double-disc DVD set recorded live during an incredible sold-out performance at Madison Square Garden earlier this year. In stores now, the two-disc audio set contains all 18 tracks performed that evening while the DVD set houses a 90-minute feature-film on the band, entitled Behind the Backline, as well as the full concert in its entirety. Directed by Sam Erickson (My Morning Jacket's OKONOKOS, John Mayer's Any Given Thursday), the feature film interweaves documentary footage with highlighted songs from the band's performance at the World's Most Famous Arena.
