Clutch combines elements of funk and metal with vocals that are both witty and inspiring. Formed in 1991, the Maryland based group built a local following through constant gigging. A self-titled album appeared in 1995, which afforded Clutch mainstream exposure. They jumped to the larger Columbia label for 1998's Elephant Riders. Clutch shows are the stuff of legend and the band has performed everywhere from college bars to sold-out arenas. They continue their proud tradition as a great live act that brings fans of various styles together under a single roof. In the fall of 2006, the band hit the studio to record their next album, From Beale Street to Oblivion, released in March 2007. Critical reaction has been overwhelmingly positive; the influential magazine Metal Hammer called it a "future classic, the best album the group has ever produced, and easily a frontrunner for album of the year." Their cult like fans, maintain their devotion and continue to follow the musical experiment known as Clutch. Nearly 18 years strong, and eight albums deep, Clutch continues to cater to their rock-thirsty fans.
