Dan Snaith recently took to his website to announce details of a new Caribou live album.
The double-LP, dubbed Live at ATP New York, was recorded in September 2009 at the Flaming Lips-curated festival. Snaith enlisted the help of a few friends for the event. “We wanted this show to be something special, so we put together a 15-piece band including all of our friends — Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), Luke Lalonde (Born Ruffians), Koushik Ghosh (Koushik), a five-piece horn section, four drummers and Sun Ra arkestra band leader and legend Marshall Allen,” he writes.

Genuinely shocking or tawdry, campy fun? In their long history, it's sometimes been hard to tell which way the Misfits wanted to be taken. Either way, they've amassed an immense cult following - all of which love the Misfits' penchant for catchy, anthemic melodies (often delivered at warp speed) and their lyrical obsession with grade-B horror films and splatter imagery. You'll have to see this show to believe it - Wednesday, December 1 at The Orange Peel. Tickets go on sale Friday, September 3 at noon.
These recently announced shows will go on sale Friday, August 27:
Asheville, NC:
The Orange Peel: Richard Thompson Band on Sunday, October 17 • Joanna Newsom on Friday, November 19
Knoxville, TN:

Tennessee Theatre: Clay Aiken on Thursday, February 17
Valarium: Rusko on Tuesday, October 26
Memphis, TN:
Minglewood Hall: The Posies & Brendan Benson with Aqueduct on Sunday, November 21
Moogfest 2010 marks the first time the annual celebration will be held in Bob Moog’s adopted hometown, Asheville. The change in location brings a renewed focus on innovation and pushing creativity toward new dimensions. While we acknowledge Bob’s contribution to music, moogfest 201 isn’t a retrospective or trip down nostalgia lane. Legendary artists from the 1960s and 70s go hand in hand with Moog, but that’s a myopic view; the beginning, not the end, of the of the Moog story. The artists appearing at moogfest 2010 are fearless innovators who have helped create new genres of ...
Pitchfork reviews Fennesz, Daniell and Buck's album Knoxville. (They give it an 8.0, which is pretty darn fabulous!) Look for Knoxville on August 24!
"Every few years, Austrian composer/producer Christian Fennesz releases a new solo album, and in the experimental electronic world, these are a pretty big deal. Since Fennesz's music itself is defined by weight and density-- he likes noisy climaxes, thickly textured electronic drones, and pieces that work on an orchestral scale-- it's understandable that these Big Solo Statements have come to define him as an artist. But those who follow his career ...

In this how-to lesson with Canada’s Q TV Aaron Dessner, The National’s guitarist/bassist/pianist explains the piano part of "England."
As Dessner says, “England” is “quite simple. It goes once through the basic progression and then when it comes back down to the root chord the guitars start, and the guitars are also thirds, except they’re also fifths. There’s four guitar parts and they’re all interlocking, playing eighth notes along with the piano, kind of giving it a pulse.”
I'm not sure my childhood piano lessons covered this one...Good luck!
